Day 2

Meeting of participants in Norcia, Umbria village of very ancient origin, around 10.00 and meeting with the guide. Guided visit to the Basilica di San Benedetto (Cathedral of Saint Benedict) dating back to the thirteenth century, with its splendid Gothic façade, rose window and decorations of 4 evangelists. The tradition has it that it was built on the ruins of the Saint’s birthplace. The tour continues to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Argentea, built in Roman times on a temple dedicated to the goddess Fortuna Argentea.
Lunch in a typical restaurant carefully selected.
After lunch, departure for Cascia, a small city founded in the Roman age and surrounded by dense forests in which nature, history and spirituality merge.
Guided visit (exclusively reserved to our travellers) of the Church of St. Augustine, which from above overlooks all the village; interesting for the interior beautifully decorated with frescoes by the Umbrian and Perugia school in the fourteenth and fifteenth century. We will continue with a guided visit to the Monastery of Santa Rita, dating back to the twelfth century, passed first from Benedictine nuns to the Augustinian ones, and which currently accommodates cloistered nuns.
At the end of visits free time at your disposal and, in the late afternoon, departure to return to Norcia. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast, departure for Roccaporena, a charming village situated on the end of a small ravine. Here you will visit the village and the Santa Rita House with the Orto del Miracolo (Garden of Miracle) attached.
We will continue by bus in the direction of Monteleone di Spoleto; a small centre laid out on a Medieval structure, which stands on a hill at 1000 metres of altitude, in a panoramic position on the Corno valley.
Here a guided visit of the Church and of the Convent of St. Francis is foreseen, first of the Benedictine oratory and then that of the Franciscan friars.
After lunch, based on typical dishes, we will leave again in the direction Leonessa, a lovely small city, which also lies at 1000m of height, where we will visit the Convent and the Church of St. Francis, an architectural marvel which houses inside a crib in polychrome terracotta.
At the end of the visit you will have free time until 18.30, and then we will leave to return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4

Breakfast and departure to Rieti, a charming village of Sabina, for a guided visit of the underground city, the greatest monumental testimony of Romans’ Rieti.
The next stop will be Rocca Sinibalda, an attractive village characterised by the imposing castle,  dating back to 1.084, which will be object of visit.

After lunch of your choice, the trip continues to Castel di Tora on the Lake of Turano, one of the most beautiful villages of Italy which, with a maze of narrow streets in which buildings in local rustic stone walls follow one after the one, has the typical appearance of a Medieval small village.
Free time at your disposal to visit the village and walk along the lake until 17.30, when we will leave again for Fiuggi.
Accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 5

After breakfast, departure for Subiaco. Fundamental place of the Benedictine experience, it’s a concentrate of spirituality, history, art and nature. Saint Benedict of Nursia arrived here at the end of the fifteenth century experiencing that kind of monastic life that he will show in his Regula and which was completed in Montecassino.
Meeting with the guide and visit of the Monastery of Saint Benedict which leans against the rocky side of Mount Talèo, in an idyllic position overlooking the Holy Valley. The visit will continue to the Monastero di Santa Scolastica (Abbey of Saint Scholastica), which is the oldest remained of the thirteen ones founded by Saint Benedict.
After lunch of your choice, in the afternoon, we will visit the Convento di S. Francesco (Convent of St. Francis).
Free time until 18.00, time to return to the hotel in Fiuggi. Dinner and Overnight.

Day 6

Breakfast and departure for Collepardo, whose name derives from the Latin “Collis arduus”, which means a not very accessible place, maybe for this reason, it was the destination and place of passage of many religious persons who lead a retired life entirely consecrated to contemplative life and to eremitism, above all in the area of Trisulti.
Meeting with the guide and visit of the Certosa di Trisulti, which was founded by the Carthusian monks in 1204, in a wonderful position at  825 metres high, is one of the most beautiful monasteries in central Italy.
This will be followed by a visit of the Madonna delle Cese, where legend has it that a pious and holy hermit had the apparition of the Virgin Mary, who left her image imprinted on the stone (detached and kept at Certosa di Trisulti), and panoramic tour of Pozzo di Antullo, a large karst chasm, only example in Europe with a circumference of 200 metres and 60 metres deep.
The lunch of the day will be consumed in Fumone inside of a typical Medieval tavern.
The centre with its severe charm, in a completely isolated position, the perfect preservation of Medieval structures and the detention of Celestine V (the Pope of the great refusal) make of Fumone a due stop, in whose main square, our travellers will be welcomed by local people dressed in Ciociaria costumes (peasant costumes and with a barrel organ (a service that will continue during lunch).
After lunch, we will continue our tour towards Veroli, for the meeting with the guide  at the Abbey of  Casamari, sublime expression of that Cistercian Gothic which fascinates so much in the churches and monasteries of the countries beyond the Aps. The visit will continue to the historical centre of this city of very ancient origin, to the Basilicas of S. Erasmus and of S. Salome, which includes the Scala Sancta with its 12 steps, whose the 11° is assumed to enclose a relic of the Cross.
At the end of visits, return to the hotel in Fiuggi.
Dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Breakfast in the hotel and departure for Roccasecca. Meeting with the guide and stroll of about 20 minutes to reach the  Eremo dello Spirito Santo – Hermitage of the Holy Spirit (climbing is easy, but comfortable shoes are recommended, better if of trekking-type). Nestled in a narrow recess of the rocky wall  of the Melfa Gorges - a magical place of which then you will enjoy the pleasure of the primitive nature – the oldest part of the settlement dates back to the eighth – ninth century and consists of the caves with the monk’s cells organised around a common environment used for functions.
The visit will continue at the Church of San Vito sul Melfa  (we will provide you with the keys which is currently a place closed to the public). It is a very old church, which preserves finds of Roman age, and fascinating at the same time, because in these places important and bloody battles took place in 1944, on the edge of the Gustav Line.
At the end of the visit, free time in the historical place of Roccasecca and lunch in a typical restaurant.
After lunch, we will leave again for Montecassino – where, after having giving the rule  to monks, St. Benedict died on the 21st of March 547 - and the guided visit of the eponymous Abbey, one of the most important places of the history of the Church.
Return to the hotel.
Dinner and overnight and end of services.

Day 8

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return.
End of services.
